About the project:

Beaches On The Air is a global award scheme for radio amateurs that promotes portable operation from beaches. We have rolls of honour and awards for activators (those who operate from the beaches) and chasers (those who contact them from home or elsewhere). Radio amateurs can participate from any beach, country or region around the world. The programme brings together thousands of players from six continents, and new ones are joining every day.

Besides promoting fun and amateur radio, the programme also encourages participants to get out of their shacks and do mild exercise, top up their vitamin D levels, enjoy natural heritage and share that enjoyment with others. By providing a purpose, rewards and community, this initiative is an experience on how games and technology can drive personal, organizational, and social change, with potential applications to other fields such as education or public policy.
